Adrian told himself he wasn’t thinking about Ha-neul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then he spent three days thinking about Ha-neul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which, unfortunately, was not the same thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The language exchange buzzed with familiar energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Introductions happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone was already telling the same story they’d told three times before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian grabbed a drink and settled into his usual seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few minutes later he noticed her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ha-neul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Standing across the room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Talking with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Laughing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some reason she seemed brighter tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it was the lighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe it was the fact he hadn’t seen her in almost two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The evening passed normally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least on the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet somehow they kept ending up in the same conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same tables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like magnets pretending not to be magnets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the night wound down, Ha-neul surprised him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You like cycling, right?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian blinked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yeah.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her eyes brightened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We should go sometime.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The words landed with unexpected force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because they were romantic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not because they were dramatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because she had suggested it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virgos often spend so much time calculating possibilities that reality catches them off guard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was one of those moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sure.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Adrian arrived, Ha-neul was already there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She waved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A simple gesture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet something about it felt strangely warm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not exciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not intense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which somehow felt more dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They began riding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first the conversation stayed easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The safe topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then something unexpected happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hours passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And neither seemed eager to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They stopped for drinks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then walked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then sat by the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then talked some more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The day kept extending itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As though neither person wanted to be the first to end it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At one point Ha-neul laughed so hard she nearly lost balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian caught her arm instinctively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a second neither moved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The world continued normally around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But something shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invisible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet real.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Later they sat watching people pass by.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Couples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ordinary parade of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ha-neul looked toward the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You travel a lot.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Yeah.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You always come back though.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Usually.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She nodded thoughtfully.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As if filing the information away somewhere important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sun began setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orange reflections spread across the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither seemed in a hurry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Adrian found himself noticing small things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The way she tucked hair behind her ear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The way she listened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The way she seemed genuinely curious about people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not just him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile Ha-neul was conducting her own investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian wasn’t what she’d expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was calmer outside the language exchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Softer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less guarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More thoughtful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were long silences that somehow didn’t feel uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She found herself liking those moments most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually evening arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ride had lasted far longer than either planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither mentioned it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When they finally said goodbye, it wasn’t dramatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No confession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No movie ending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a promise to do it again sometime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adrian rode home through the city lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For once his mind wasn’t producing thirty-seven explanations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Only one question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A simpler question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A more dangerous question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Was that just a bike ride?”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across the city, Ha-neul stared out her apartment window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thinking about the same day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The same smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And wondering something remarkably similar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
