Synchronicity, Divination, and Spiritual Energy in the Digital Age"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"725\" src=\"https:\/\/spiritual.webz.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-40-1024x725.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-841\" srcset=\"https:\/\/spiritual.webz.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-40-1024x725.png 1024w, https:\/\/spiritual.webz.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-40-300x212.png 300w, https:\/\/spiritual.webz.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-40-767x543.png 767w, https:\/\/spiritual.webz.link\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/image-40.png 1491w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For thousands of years, divination has involved physical objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yarrow stalks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The physical act seems important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You hold the objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You formulate a question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You shuffle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You cast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something falls into place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then the oracle is interpreted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, however, the same process may be reduced to something almost absurdly simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>tap a phone screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An I Ching app generates Hexagram 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A tarot app draws The Hermit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No coins were thrown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No yarrow stalks were divided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No physical deck was shuffled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So does the divination still \u201ccount\u201d?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can synchronicity operate through a computer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Can a digital card carry the same symbolic or spiritual significance as a physical one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if one believes divination can connect with something beyond ordinary conscious reasoning, could that connection pass through an app just as easily as through physical objects?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no scientific evidence demonstrating that either physical or digital divination literally channels spirits or supernatural energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But within the <strong>spiritual logic of synchronicity<\/strong>, there is actually a strong argument that the physical tool may be less important than we assume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The history of the I Ching itself gives us an excellent example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The I Ching Already Survived One Major Technological Change<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ancient method of consulting the I Ching involved <strong>yarrow stalks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional procedure uses fifty stalks, with one set aside and forty-nine repeatedly divided and counted to generate each line of the hexagram. The <em>Xici<\/em>, or Great Commentary, explicitly describes a yarrow-based procedure, and archaeological scholarship suggests forms of yarrow-related hexagram divination are extremely old. (<a href=\"https:\/\/plato.stanford.edu\/archives\/sum2019\/entries\/chinese-change\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is slow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deliberate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Almost meditative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One consultation can take a considerable amount of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then eventually another method became widespread:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>coins.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of carefully manipulating dozens of stalks, the user tosses three coins six times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much faster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Much more portable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And inevitably, one could ask exactly the same question that appears today with apps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Isn&#8217;t this cheating?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the traditional oracle used yarrow stalks, why should throwing three metal discs produce the same connection?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet coin divination became thoroughly incorporated into I Ching practice. Jung himself used the three-coin method when demonstrating the I Ching in his famous foreword to Richard Wilhelm&#8217;s translation. (<a href=\"https:\/\/iaap.org\/resources\/academic-resources\/collected-works-abstracts\/volume-11-psychology-religion-west-east\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">IAAP<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That historical change is extremely important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It suggests that the spiritual operation of the I Ching was never necessarily believed to reside exclusively inside the physical stalks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The stalks were a <strong>method for creating the moment of selection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coins could create another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now the smartphone potentially creates a third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Coin Method Is Not Actually Identical to Yarrow Stalks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is, however, an interesting technical complication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The traditional yarrow procedure and ordinary three-coin method do <strong>not produce changing lines with identical probabilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the yarrow method, the approximate probabilities are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6, old yin: <strong>1\/16<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7, young yang: <strong>5\/16<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>8, young yin: <strong>7\/16<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>9, old yang: <strong>3\/16<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the standard three-coin method:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6: <strong>1\/8<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7: <strong>3\/8<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>8: <strong>3\/8<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>9: <strong>1\/8<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So although both methods ultimately generate the same 64 primary hexagrams, they distribute changing yin and yang lines differently. (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/I_Ching_divination?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">Wikipedia<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This becomes surprisingly important for apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A well-designed I Ching application could theoretically simulate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>the coin probabilities,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>the yarrow probabilities,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">or some entirely different randomization method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore the question should not only be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIs the app digital?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It should also be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWhat method is the app actually simulating?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A good app should ideally tell you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Jung Meant by Synchronicity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carl Jung offers perhaps the strongest philosophical argument for why an app could still function as a divinatory tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jung became fascinated with the I Ching through his friendship with sinologist Richard Wilhelm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He believed the oracle illustrated what he later called <strong>synchronicity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Synchronicity describes a meaningful coincidence in which two events correspond meaningfully without an obvious causal relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Jung&#8217;s interpretation of the I Ching, the important idea was that the hexagram generated <strong>at that particular moment<\/strong> somehow expressed the quality of the moment in which the question was asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Association for Analytical Psychology summarizes Jung&#8217;s position: the hexagram is treated as corresponding to the situation prevailing at the moment it comes into existence, rather than being produced through ordinary causal prediction. (<a href=\"https:\/\/iaap.org\/jungs-concept-of-synchronicity-and-its-practice-within-chinese-culture-by-kan-chen\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">IAAP<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That leads to an interesting conclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If synchronicity is genuinely <strong>acausal<\/strong>, then why would it require wooden stalks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why would metal coins work but silicon electronics suddenly break the principle?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The essential element might instead be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>the meaningful moment of selection.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The App Could Simply Be the New Coin<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Imagine three stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ancient practitioner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>divide yarrow stalks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Later practitioner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>throw coins.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern practitioner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>tap Generate Hexagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The physical mechanisms are completely different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But spiritually, each performs the same function:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>an uncertain outcome becomes fixed at the moment a question is asked.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a Jungian synchronistic perspective, the moment itself may matter more than the machinery producing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The phone could simply be the twenty-first-century equivalent of the coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">But There Is One Major Problem: Is It Actually Random?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Physical divination has an obvious uncertainty built into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You genuinely do not know how the coins will fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With software, the process is hidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An app generally uses some form of <strong>pseudo-random number generation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That does not necessarily make the result spiritually inferior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For ordinary purposes, high-quality software randomness can produce results unpredictable to the user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But there is an important distinction between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>random selection<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>algorithmic personalization.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suppose a tarot app secretly selects cards based on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">your previous readings,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">what keeps users engaged,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">your profile,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">or what the developer wants you to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is no longer equivalent to shuffling a deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now another human-designed intelligence is influencing the oracle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spiritual question changes dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Best Digital Oracle Should Not Try to Tell You What You Want to Hear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may become increasingly important as AI enters spiritual apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A true randomized tarot application should be capable of giving you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">an uncomfortable card,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">a confusing card,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">or a card that appears completely unrelated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An engagement-optimized application might instead learn:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cThis user likes relationship readings.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then subtly produce more emotionally satisfying interpretations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That might feel more psychic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But ironically it would be <strong>less genuinely random<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If synchronicity depends upon an open moment of chance, excessive personalization could actually interfere with the very principle the oracle is supposed to embody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tarot Raises the Same Question Differently<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tarot is slightly different from the I Ching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The physical deck has become an important part of tarot ritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Readers often:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">shuffle personally,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">cut the deck,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">touch the cards,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">lay them out,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">turn them over,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and develop familiarity with a particular deck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That physical relationship can feel important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But historically, tarot cards were not originally created as mystical divination objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The earliest tarot decks emerged in fifteenth-century Italy primarily as playing cards. Their occult and fortune-telling associations developed much later. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.metmuseum.org\/fr\/perspectives\/tarot-2?utm_source=chatgpt.com\">The Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is useful because it reminds us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>the paper itself was never inherently sacred from the beginning.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spiritual meaning accumulated around the symbolic system and the ritual of using it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That makes digital tarot easier to defend conceptually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Makes a Tarot Reading Work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are at least three possible explanations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Psychological Model<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cards function as an <strong>archetypal mirror<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You see:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Tower,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Lovers,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Death,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Fool,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hermit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The image stimulates unconscious associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You interpret your life through the symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From this perspective, a digital tarot deck can work perfectly well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The psychological trigger is primarily the image and meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A physical card is not necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Synchronicity Model<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The apparently random card somehow meaningfully corresponds with the psychological situation at the moment of selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If that is the model, then again, there is no obvious reason an app could not participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The synchronicity would not reside inside cardboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would exist in the relationship between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>question + moment + apparently random result + meaning.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Literal Spiritual-Channel Model<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A third interpretation says some form of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">spirit,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">psychic energy,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">guidance,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">or nonphysical intelligence<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">influences the selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here things become much more speculative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is currently no reliable scientific evidence demonstrating that spirits manipulate either physical tarot decks or digital random-number generators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So one can hold that possibility spiritually, but it should be recognized as a <strong>metaphysical belief rather than established fact<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Could a Spirit Influence a Computer as Easily as a Coin?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If one already assumes a nonphysical intelligence can influence chance, an interesting philosophical question follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why would influencing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the movement of a coin<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">be easier than influencing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the moment someone taps a screen?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From within that worldview, there is no obvious reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The physical mechanism may be irrelevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meaningful event is simply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>this result appeared now.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, digital divination has already developed its own spiritual logic. Scholars studying online divination have described how digital practitioners construct ritual meaning around technological randomness, sometimes effectively <strong>sacralizing randomness itself<\/strong>. problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If divination works through Jungian synchronicity:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There is no obvious theoretical reason it could not.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Synchronicity concerns meaningful coincidence rather than the physical sanctity of a particular randomizer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But synchronicity itself remains a philosophical and psychological concept rather than a scientifically established mechanism for predicting events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If divination works through literal spirits or subtle energy:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>That remains unverified.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no reliable evidence establishing whether such beings or energies manipulate coins, stalks, cards, or computer algorithms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within that belief system, however, one could reasonably argue that a nonphysical intelligence would not necessarily be restricted to physical objects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Perhaps the Real Oracle Is the Relationship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This may be the deeper spiritual answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The oracle may not be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">the yarrow stalk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The oracle may be the <strong>relationship between consciousness and uncertainty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You ask something sincerely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You relinquish control over which symbol appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then you confront it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a moment, you allow reality to answer in a form you did not consciously select.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That surrender is the ritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yarrow makes you surrender through complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coins make you surrender through chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cards make you surrender through shuffling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The app makes you surrender through a button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The technology differs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The spiritual gesture may be the same:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I will ask\u2014and I will accept whatever symbol appears first.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Screen Does Not Necessarily Break Synchronicity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perhaps the strangest assumption would actually be that synchronicity works through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">plants,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">metal,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">paper,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and human hands<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but suddenly encounters an impenetrable metaphysical barrier when electrons enter a computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If synchronicity describes the meaningful quality of a moment, there is no obvious reason the moment cannot include technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern life already does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meaningful question is therefore not:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWas this generated digitally?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cWas the consultation approached sincerely, was the outcome genuinely open, and am I willing to listen rather than manipulate the result?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If those conditions are present, a digital oracle can function as a serious contemplative practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether something supernatural also participates is a separate question\u2014one we presently cannot demonstrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But perhaps that uncertainty is appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The I Ching itself is called the <strong>Book of Changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would be
